Description

The hydraulic mill, with its large bellows and hammer, was used to produce iron before the existence of furnaces. In Pagoeta natural reserve, Agorregi ironworks allows us to see the system which was used for centuries.

Agorregi ironworks was built in the 18th century, on the site of a previous one, by the Lord of the Palace of Laurgain. The architect Francisco Ibero was entrusted with designing an ingenious crisscross of channels, dams and tanks to make full use of the limited hydraulic resources of the basin.

Following its restoration by the Provincial Government of Gipuzkoa, Agorregi iron mill is now operating again, this time for educational purposes. A visit to this pre-industrial heritage site is an interesting way to complement immersion in nature by all people visiting Pagoeta natural reserve.
