What is Nekatur?+
Nekatur is the Basque Country agrotourism establishments, country houses and rural tourist apartments association. We count on over 70% of rural accommodation available in the Basque Country.
We are an association committed to preserving our cultural heritage, natural environment and way of life.
We aim to provide a comprehensive rural experience for our visitors, inviting them to explore the Basque Country's landscapes and culture, thereby strengthening the agricultural sector and promoting sustainable rural tourism.
What are the requirements to join Nekatur?+
All affiliates must own or manage an agrotourism establishment, country house or rural tourist apartment in the Basque Country Region, and must have submitted the responsible declaration to the Basque Regional Government's Tourism Department.
To join Nekatur, you must submit the relevant documents, pay a one-time signup fee, pay the monthly fees, and agree to follow the association's guidelines and rules of conduct.
What type of establishments can join Nekatur?+
Our association hosts 3 types of accommodation, in accordance with Basque Government regulations:
- Agrotourism establishments: “Agrotourism” combines the terms “agriculture” and
“tourism” to describe accommodation, with or without board, in farmhouses or traditional
establishments within farming operations where tourists can engage in agricultural and/or livestock
activities.
Link to regulations - Country houses: Country houses that offer accommodation, with or without board, in
buildings featuring typical rural architecture.
Link to regulations - Rural tourist apartments: Tourist apartments in rural areas, located in buildings or constructions that reflect the region's or local area's traditional architecture.
Can I join if I am in the process of opening a rural accommodation establishment in the Basque Country?+
Yes. You can sign an affiliation commitment and start enjoying a range of benefits and guidance. You will need to pay €50 when signing the commitment, which will be deducted from the signup fee later on.
How much does it cost to join Nekatur?+
A signup fee is required to join Nekatur. It is a one-off payment.
There are two signup fees:
- SIGNUP FEE: 150€
Includes: signup + Nekatur plaque + online/telephone training in Nekatur tools. - SIGNUP FEE WITH PHOTO REPORT: 300€
Includes: signup + Nekatur plaque + online/telephone training in Nekatur tools + extensive photo report.
What is the monthly fee?+
The monthly fee is calculated by adding €130 to one day's occupancy cost (determined by multiplying the number of rooms by their average price) and then dividing by 12 months.
Example: The annual fee for accommodation with 6 rooms, each priced at an average of €60, is calculated as follows:
6 rooms x €60 (price per room) = €360 (1-day occupancy) + €130 (fixed amount) = €490 divided by 12 months = €40.83 per month.
The fee is paid monthly.
