Description

For many years Donostia-San Sebastian was nothing more than a set of streets at the foot of Mount Urgull, known today as the Old District. A fire in 1813 and the pulling down of the walls changed the face but not the vital character of this pedestrian square area.

The Old District is the heart of festivities and the place where people from San Sebastian come together, perhaps to enjoy a 'txikito' (wine), 'zurito' (glass of beer) and a 'pintxo' (tapa) as they go from bar to bar. Plaza de la Constitución, the churches of San Vicente and Santa María, and San Telmo Museum are the singular points of this wonderful little area.
