Description

One of the most outstanding aspects of Vitoria-Gasteiz is its large number of green areas. Not in vain, it is the state capital with the highest ratio of landscaped areas per inhabitant (42 m2 per person). The Álava capital, with over 150,000 trees of 140 different species, is considered a true botanical garden, and has large parks such as La Florida and El Prado, where Martín Fiz, the world marathon champion, trains. It is surrounded by a Green Ring made up of four parks, forming an authentic natural lung for the city. One of these is Salburúa, one of the most important wetlands in the Basque Country, where the "Ataria" Nature Interpretation Centre will open shortly.

The Green Belt of Vitoria-Gasteiz is the result of an ambitious project to restore and recover the peripheral areas of Vitoria-Gasteiz, both from the environmental and social viewpoint, in order to create a large green area for recreational use around the city.
