Located near the picturesque town of Zarautz, the Pagoeta Nature Reserve invites you to discover a humanised landscape of rural and farmed areas, with the majestic Mount Pagoeta at its heart, towering over the charming rural towns of Aia and Laurgain (Gipuzkoa). It takes its name from the 678-metre Pagoeta, part of the Gipuzkoa coastal mountain range.
A natural and cultural paradise.
Nature and history come together to offer a unique experience in the Pagoeta Nature Reserve. The Parketxe Iturraran, housed in a farmhouse dating from the 15th century, is home to a Nature School and a Visitor Centre. You can enjoy a fascinating ethnographic exhibition on rural life and walk through an impressive botanical garden.
In the park you will also find the Agorregi forge, dating back to the 15th century, and the elurzuloak, where you can learn about the old techniques of cold conservation. For history lovers, Pagoeta has important prehistoric remains, such as dolmens (Otagain, Olarteta, Zaingo), burial mounds (Muzin, Arreta) and cave sites (Erratia and Amalda in the Alzoralas valley).
Marvel at the unique beauty of indigenous livestock such as the Betizu cow and the Pottoka horse, which will add a special experience to your visit.
Trees, the result of reforestation since 1956, cover the northern slope of the park. Under this canopy, the yew tree is often found, giving the undergrowth a special charm.
Come and enjoy the magic of the Pagoeta Nature Reserve, a place where nature and history meet to give you a truly unforgettable experience.
