Description

In the Álava capital, on top of the hill where the city was born in 1181, we find the majestic Cathedral of Santa María. The temple, which began to be built in the 13th century on a defensive wall, has been in a privileged position to witness of the history of Vitoria-Gasteiz. It is now immersed in a complex Restoration Plan, which has been internationally recognised with different awards. Do not miss out on visiting it. The cathedral is open during the work, allowing visitors the unique opportunity to envisage the bowels of the building and the restoration work involved in one of the most emblematic monuments of the city.

To take part in a guided tour visitors must go to the Visitor Reception Area, with entrance at Plaza de las Brullerías (opposite the El Portalón restaurant) or on Fray Zacarías Martínez Street (beside the "Torre de los Anda") ten minutes before the tour starts to collect tickets. If prior booking has been made but visitors fail to arrive on time, vacancies cannot be guaranteed.
Enquire for other tours: the Nave (the chance to visit the 400 m2 of flooring installed in July 2009, without guide), the Tower (only weekends and holidays), "The Portico of Light" and the Wall.
