San Juan de Momoitio Hermitage

To reach this place we should take the main road heading towards Goiuria, turning off to the left after half a kilometre, at a small hill upon which a hermitage sits. Very shortly we will reach the Hermitage of San Juan Bautista de Momoitio, dating from the 12th century.

The excavations carried out in 1982 found numerous late mediaeval sepulchres, ceramics, silver rings, etc, which date from between the end of the 12th century and the beginning of the 14th century.

This beautiful building is surrounded by oak trees and holm oaks and, thanks to its privileged location, offers us an ideal place to admire the Duranguesado region.
