Descripción

Eibar is the most significant armoury town in the Basque Country. In 2007, The Arms Industry Museum was opened and in May, 2009 its extension was inaugurated, with the goal of conserving and disseminating the history and industrial heritage of the town, thereby recognising the work carried out over many centuries by its armoury artisans.

The museum is on the fifth floor of the Portalea Cultural Arts Center in Eibar, a building with a strong historical and symbolic significance, since it was home to the former rifle factory of Aguirre y Aranzabal. It offers a historical trip through the armoury industry from the 14th century to today, and it shows how the great depression of 1920 in the arms industry forced businesses to search for solutions. These were found in the diversification of production.

The Collection has a great variety of firearms from both Eibar and different parts of the world. It also has a lot of different manufactured articles produced in Eibar:: bicycles, motorbikes, electrical appliances, corkscrews, staplers, sewing machines ... showing the great production variety its industry has developed and its international relevancy.
